Film "Mentors"

I think it's a little hard to tell whats going on in this photo but I liked the concept of it. It could have been a good shot but it turned out a little dark. I liked how the willow tree looked with a swing set infront of it and grass in the foreground leading up to it. This was basically a test photo and my mentor didn't really influence anything about it.

This photo was taken around sunset time. There was some cool looking shadows that the trees created so I thought it would make a nice picture. I think my mentor influenced this photo because of the shadows, in a few of his series he had photos of the grand canyons with the huge shadows casted by them, I thought it looked interesting and it's a little different.

This photo is probably my favourite out of the series of photos because of how clear it turned out. My mentor influenced this photo because he liked to get close and take pictures with something in the foreground, so I got down into the grass and took the picure with the fields and grass in the foreground and trees and sky in the background.
With this photo I would have liked it to turn out a little more clear because I wanted to show the detail on the old barn. A big asset to my mentors photos was that he liked color and detail, since I dont have color I figured some good detail would be nice. Even though its typically not a landscape photo I wanted to shoot something that would show some great detail.

My mentor didn't take many photos of animals since he does more landscaping photography but when he does he caputers them in their natural habitat just doing what they do. (I tried to capture my horses grazing in the flield but when they see me they come running) Origionally I didn't like how the fence is in the picture, but I like how unplanned the photo looks, the horses are just doing what they do everyday.

Emotive Portraits: Questions&Answers

1. Who is the audience for this article?
I think the audience would be anyone who is interested in photography and taking pictures or any student photographers.
2. Do these tips speak to the sudent photographer?
These tips do speak to the student photographer because they're tips given by someone who has learned from experience. The tips are straight forward so that the learneing photoographer can easily remember and apply them.
3. What is one tip you will use and why?
One tip I will use is number seven, to be prepared. I would use this because i think its best to be prepared for a photoshoot and knowing what to look for and what to expect. If you aren't ready and just hopeing to get lucky with shooting the perfect photo chances are you won't have a successful shoot.
4. What is one tip you dont agree with and why?
One til I diagree with is number 12 "marvellous mono" it just doesnt make a lot of sence and it doesnt seem that important to me. If I were doing a shoot i wouldnt really be thinking about high contrast monochrome.

Photo Essay

Some of the pictures didnt uplaod, and these arent in order but basically the picture of me tieing my shoe is the begininng of practice and getting ready, there is another one of me putting a bow in my hair. Then there is a picture of a girl stretching with some others in the background in our stretch circle. During practice we mostly work on stunts and parts in our routine so thats why I took a picture of the stunt group. These pictures basically just show the order of practice and the routine of how we run a practice starting from getting ready to working hard. I have some pictures from competition but I cant seem to uplaod them so ill keep working on that.

Journal #3

Muybridge had such an influence on the Futurists because his style was a little different. He liked to set up his pictures in a narrative way rather than a chronophotography way. I think he liked that he could tell a story with his photographs and recognize them as individuale photographs that made up a story rather than seeing them as a science experiment.

The other photographers in the Futurists seem to have a great impact by using chronophotography, maybe even more so than Muybridge because he didn't like to use this technique and at the time people were interested in the style of chronophotography.

Journal #2 Pinhole picture

I think what went worng with this one is that there was too much exposure, I left it open too long and its also blurry so I could have held it more steady. My other ones turned out white with a black dot on them so they definitely  weren't exposed long enough

Journal #1 My Culture

Larry Clark and Larry Sultan have a very different style in shooting their culture and home life. Larry Clark's photos are more about his life with his friends in his hometown while Larry Sultan shoots his family life at home. Larry Clarks photos are more in black and white to represent a more grundgy hard core kind of life style, he has some nudity and you can tell the kind of life style he had with his friends and his neighborhood. Larry Sultan has pictures of family and it seems that he maybe didn't have the best home life, the photos of his parents seem distant and you cant really see a happy connection. I think he meant to show this in his work. The similarities are that they seem greatly influenced by the people in their life, not many pictures of objects or animals. Both of their friends and family are what stands out the most for them and they knew they could make meaningful messages out of the photos.

Its not that I really like reading but this just sums up some of the things I enjoy and am interested in. Lately I've been looking at design and decorating books because I'm hopefully going to collage for interior design.

This is Sassy and she's been my cat ever since I can remember. Obviously she's a big part of my life and thats why I chose to take her photo for this assignment

I have been on an allstar competitive cheerleading team for about 4 years now and its been a huge part of my life. I practice twice a week with the occasional competition on weekends. I decided to photograph my cheer gym bag with my shoes because these shoes have literally endured my blood, sweat and tears and both items just mean so much more than what they seem.

Getting to Know your Style

This is definitely my favorite out of the three. I like it because the colors are so natural and it was creatively done by making the two look like there racing each other. Naomi campbell's muscular body running next to the cheetah really makes a connection between the two. The blurry back ground makes the two figures stand out and really makes it a good action shot.

Jean-Paul did this series called "Wild Things" by going to Africa and shooting the animals there and then Naomi Campbell went to his studio in paris to photograph separately. He then edited the photographs on photoshop and did a beautiful job.
I love how the photographs incorporate fashion and beauty with animals. I think having wild animals makes the photo look more powerful rather than just having a model trying to sell a fashion item.

Editorial/Fashion photography all done by Jean-Paul Goude and model: Naomi Campbell
